The following animals are protected due to a heightened risk of extinction, population decline, or conservation concern. These species may not be hunted, harvested, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless otherwise authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

This list is maintained by the San Andreas Parks Department and may be updated as new species are identified.

The below list is not exhaustive, but just a snapshot of the protected species in San Andreas. Internationally found lists can be found here.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Domestic animals and pets are protected under this list as a broad category.

This includes companion animals, farm and working animals, even if they are not individually listed by species below.

Land Mammals

Mountain Lion

PROTECTED SPECIES
A large native wild cat and skilled predator found in rural and mountain areas. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Marine Mammals

Orca

PROTECTED MARINE SPECIES

A large black-and-white marine mammal and apex predator, also known as a killer whale. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Whales

PROTECTED MARINE SPECIES

A large marine mammal known for long migrations, deep diving, and communication through song. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Dolphins

PROTECTED MARINE SPECIES

An intelligent marine mammal often seen travelling in social pods through coastal waters. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Harbor Seal

PROTECTED MARINE SPECIES

A coastal marine mammal often seen resting on beaches, rocks, and shallow shorelines. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Sea Otter

PROTECTED MARINE SPECIES

A small marine mammal often found floating on its back in coastal waters. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Vaquita

PROTECTED MARINE SPECIES

A small, very rare porpoise recognised by dark markings around the eyes and mouth. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Leatherhead Turtle

PROTECTED SPECIES
A large sea turtle known for its leathery shell and long ocean migrations. Must not be hunted, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Garibaldi

PROTECTED SPECIES
A bright orange marine fish commonly found around reefs and rocky coastal waters. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Giant Black Sea Bass

PROTECTED SPECIES
A large, slow-growing marine fish found around reefs, kelp beds, and rocky habitats. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Totoaba

PROTECTED SPECIES
A large marine fish found in coastal waters and known for its conservation sensitivity. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Protected Sharks & Rays

Leopard Shark

PROTECTED SPECIES
A small coastal shark recognised by its dark saddle-like markings and spotted pattern. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Angel Shark

PROTECTED SPECIES
A flat-bodied shark that rests on the sea floor and blends into sandy habitats. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Goblin Shark

PROTECTED SPECIES
A rare deep-sea shark known for its unusual snout and pale colouring. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Great White Shark

PROTECTED SPECIES
A large ocean predator recognised for its size, power, and distinctive pointed snout. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.

Hammerhead Shark

PROTECTED SPECIES
A shark recognised by its wide, hammer-shaped head and strong schooling behaviour. Must not be caught, harmed, possessed, sold, or disturbed unless authorised by SAPD or applicable law.
